The Chain Bridge: Primary Symbol

An essential aspect of the installation design was creating an easily interpretable, spectacular, and colorful installation that captures the openness and playfulness of vibrant Budapest while also evoking its historically significant built environment. I utilized the motifs of the Chain Bridge, one of Budapest's best-known landmarks, which symbolizes the connection and the birth of a metropolis. The installation's three main masses, presenting a unified image yet remaining distinct, reference the unification of Pest, Buda, and Óbuda.

City of Freedom: A Playground and Community Space

I believed that the installation should encompass openness, acceptance, and playfulness in its functionality. This led me to design the structure in a way that encourages easy exploration, inviting people to climb, relax, or relish a playground-like experience. During the evening, this playful quality can be further accentuated with dynamically changing lights, transforming it into a meeting point that brings diverse people together.

Artistic Inspiration: Victor Vasarely’s Legacy

In addition to the direct references, Victor Vasarely's op-art pieces also served as inspiration for the design language and color usage of the installation. Despite not being born in Budapest, I am convinced that his studies and early career years here significantly influenced his later works. This positions him among those who spent a substantial portion of their lives in Budapest and then achieved results that hold significance on an international level.
